This is another recipe that my mom used to make for us when we were young. Iβve never made them before! I was feeling nostalgic and wanted to share something special with my husband and 5 year old daughter. The weather is chilly even though itβs almost Spring. The nice combination of spices warmed us right up! #GlobalApron Week 2 Apples #Dessert #Fall #Autumn #Sweet #Vegetarian
View original recipe on cookpad.comAssemble your ingredients. (I had to grab one more apple after I took this picture π€ͺ) Note: choose apples that are firm, crisp, and a little tart. I used Cosmic Crisp apples. Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Pink Lady, Macintosh, Cortland, and Jonagold are good choices, too.
Finely chop the pecans.
Combine all the dry ingredients (oats, flour, salt, spices) in a bowl. Add the nuts and mix well.
Melt the butter and add it to the bowl. Mix very well until all the dry ingredients are coated with butter.
Core the apples and remove the seeds. Carve a hole about 2/3 of the way down into the apples.
Pack the buttered crumble firmly into the apples. Set them into a baking tray.
Cover the bottom of the baking tray with a 1/4β of boiling water.
Bake at 400Β°F for 25 minutes. Cover the tray with aluminum foil and bake for another 15 to 20 minutes, or until tender when pierced with a knife.
Serve as is, or with vanilla ice cream! ππ
