In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, and garlic powder. Set aside.
In a bowl, add 1 cup very warm water. Stir in the sugar until dissolved.
Add the yeast to the water, stir, and let stand 2–5 minutes until activated and foamy.
Pour the olive oil into the flour mixture.
Then pour yeast mixture into the flour mixture.
Using a mixer with a dough hook, mix on low speed until all flour is moistened. Increase to medium speed and mix for 2–3 minutes.
Leave the mixer on medium speed until the dough cleans the sides of the bowl. Add small amounts of flour if the dough is too sticky, and small amounts of water if the dough is too dry.
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Lightly flour a work surface. Turn out the dough and knead until smooth and no longer sticky.
Re-oil the bowl, return the dough, cover, and let rise for another 1 hour.
Lightly flour the dough, divide into two equal portions, and press each onto a lightly oiled 12-inch pizza pan.
Add desired toppings and bake for 15–25 minutes, depending on crust thickness, until the crust is golden and fully cooked.
