Every culture has its own version of fried dough. This is what my grandma and mom made and we used to love it when they did! Specially, around Diwali this was a big production. 🪔Diwali is right around the corner so I wanted to share this recipe with you. The uniqueness of this recipe is the addition of black onion seeds, which are also called Nigella seeds. They add a wonderful nutty flavor to the fried dough. To me a cup of tea, a bowl of nimki and a good book- that’s the good life! ⚠️Warning: these nimkis are highly addictive‼️ #october2026
View original recipe on cookpad.comAdd the 2 cups of all-purpose flour to a large mixing bowl, add salt, onion seeds, and the 2 tablespoons oil. Mix well.
Add the water little by little and form a dough. Use your hands.
Now with the help of a rolling pin, roll the dough to 1/8 inch thickness or you can eyeball it and use the images for guide. With the help of a knife make scores on the rolled out dough so it resembles diamond shapes.
Heat the oil and deep fry the little diamond shaped nimkis on medium low heat till they are golden brown.
Drain each batch on paper towel and cool completely. Your crispy, savory treat is ready!😁 Store in an airtight container and it will last at room temperature for several days.
