Cut or tear day-old bread into cubes. Set aside.
In a large bowl combine milk, cream, sugar, cinnamon, and beaten eggs.
In a 9×9 square or round pan, place one layer of bread on bottom. Place banana slices on top, followed by the rest of the bread.
Pour custard mixture over the entire dish. Press the top bread layer into custard to prevent the bread from drying out in the oven.
Place chunks of butter on top of bread pudding.
Bake for 1 hour or until an inserted knife comes out clean. Allow to cool for 15 minutes before serving so it doesn’t fall apart.
Serve with vanilla sauce.
